The island of Hvar
The theatre of Hvar (the oldest theatre in Europe), fortress, arsenal, town "loggia", cathedral and the franciscan monastery - these are only some of the monuments that will captivate you with their beauty and take you back to a time when Hvar was under rule of Venice, Austria or Napoleon.
Still, Hvar is not only about monuments. It is a haven embraced by unique climate that heals and rejuvinates. It's about beaches, restaurants and clubs and has been there for tourists for over a century.
Ivan Dolac
 Ivan Dolac is a village on the southern slopes of Hvar Island, exceptional for it's pebble beaches and sedate atmosphere. On the slopes above the village are numerous vineyards, home to some of Croatia's more exquisite wines.
The whole southern part of the island is rich with inlets and coves with pebble beaches: Suplja stina, Jagodna, Paklina... to name just a few.
Sveta Nedjelja
This town lies south of the island's highest peak, overlooking the little island group of Lukavci.
 There is a cave near the town where neolithic artefacts have been discovered. The cave was also used as a residence by the monks of the order of St Augustus before they deserted in 1798.
The area around Sveta Nedjelja is also known for it's vineyards where excellent wines are being produced, such as the well-known Plavac label.
With winding roads leading to the sea through beautiful pine copses creating a unique atmosphere, together with the unspoiled country side and the clear blue sea, Hvar is an ideal holiday destination for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and totally unwind and relax. |
